In short
Bedding sizes are not universal, so a Queen sold in the US, UK, EU, Australia and the Middle East can be three or four different dimensions. For wholesale export, spec bed, sheet and duvet sizes to the destination market rather than assuming one standard, since a set a few centimeters off will not fit local mattresses.

A Queen isn't a Queen everywhere. Here's how bed, sheet and duvet sizes differ across the US, UK, EU, Australia and the Middle East — and how to spec custom sizes for export.
One of the most expensive mistakes in cross-border bedding is sizing. A "Queen" set sold in the US, the UK, Australia and the Gulf can be three or four different sizes — and a set that's a few centimeters off won't fit the mattresses or duvets in your market. The short answer: spec your sizes to the destination market's system from the start, and confirm exact cut dimensions on the sample. Here's how the main systems differ and how to order custom sizes for export.
Why bedding sizes differ by country
There is no single global standard. Mattress dimensions, duvet (quilt cover) sizes and pillow sizes each evolved separately in the US, UK/Europe, Australia and the Middle East. Names overlap — "King", "Queen", "Double" — but the actual centimeters don't. A supplier that exports widely should be able to cut to any of these systems; the risk is assuming the name alone defines the size.
US / North America sizes
- Twin: ≈ 39×75 in (99×191 cm); Twin XL ≈ 39×80 in.
- Full / Double: ≈ 54×75 in (137×191 cm).
- Queen: ≈ 60×80 in (152×203 cm) — the US volume size.
- King: ≈ 76×80 in (193×203 cm); California King ≈ 72×84 in.
UK & Ireland sizes
- Single: ≈ 90×190 cm; Small Double ≈ 120×190 cm.
- Double: ≈ 135×190 cm (4'6").
- King: ≈ 150×200 cm.
- Super King: ≈ 180×200 cm — note the UK King differs from the US King.
European (continental) sizes
Continental Europe tends to use metric mattress sizes and, importantly, often pairs two single duvets on a double bed rather than one large duvet. Common widths: 90, 140, 160 and 180 cm, with 200 or 220 cm lengths. Duvet covers are sized to suit — e.g. 135×200, 200×200 and 240×220 cm.
Australia & New Zealand sizes
- Single: ≈ 92×188 cm; King Single ≈ 107×203 cm.
- Double: ≈ 138×188 cm.
- Queen: ≈ 153×203 cm — the Australian volume size.
- King: ≈ 183×203 cm — wider than the Australian Queen and different again from US/UK Kings.
Middle East / Gulf sizes
Gulf markets commonly use metric sizing close to the European system, with both single-duvet and large-duvet setups depending on the retailer. Confirm whether the program wants 160 or 180 cm widths and the matching duvet and pillow sizes — and remember cool-toned colorways and cooling fabrics sell strongly here. Always confirm the exact cut list with the buyer rather than assuming a regional default.
| Region | Single | Double | Queen / King | Super King |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| US / North America | Twin 99×191 cm | Full 137×191 cm | Queen 152×203 cm; King 193×203 cm | California King 183×213 cm |
| UK & Ireland | 90×190 cm | 135×190 cm | King 150×200 cm | Super King 180×200 cm |
| Europe (continental) | 90 cm width | 140 cm width | 160 cm width | 180×200/220 cm |
| Australia / NZ | 92×188 cm | 138×188 cm | Queen 153×203 cm; King 183×203 cm | — |
| Middle East / Gulf | Metric, EU-like | Metric, EU-like | 160 or 180 cm width | 180 cm width |
Duvet covers and pillows aren't just the mattress size
A duvet cover is sized to the duvet, not the mattress — and the duvet usually overhangs the bed. Pillowcases vary too: US Standard/Queen/King, UK housewife and Oxford, and European 65×65 cm square pillows are all different. When you spec a four-piece set, lock the duvet cover, flat/fitted sheet and pillowcase dimensions together so the whole set matches the destination bed.
How to order the right sizes for export
- 1.Tell your supplier the destination market and the exact size names you'll retail (US Queen, UK King, EU 240×220, etc.).
- 2.Provide the cut dimensions in centimeters — names alone aren't enough across systems.
- 3.Decide single vs paired duvets for European/Gulf programs.
- 4.Confirm pillowcase style (housewife, Oxford, square) and fitted-sheet pocket depth for deeper mattresses.
- 5.Sign off the measured sample before bulk — measure the physical sample, don't just trust the spec sheet.
Full-size customization is standard at a source factory: we cut to US, UK, EU, Australian and Middle-East systems (and bespoke hotel sizes) from a 100-set MOQ, with the cut list confirmed on your sample before production. Get the sizing right once and reorders simply repeat the locked spec.
Names like "King" and "Queen" mean different centimeters in different countries. Spec bedding by the destination market's measurements — and confirm them on the sample — and it fits the bed out of the box.

Frequently asked questions
- Is a Queen the same size in every country?
- No — a US Queen (≈152×203 cm), an Australian Queen (≈153×203 cm) and the absence of a standard Queen in the UK mean the name alone never defines the size. Always spec the exact cut dimensions in centimeters for the destination market.
- How does a UK King differ from a US King?
- A UK King is ≈150×200 cm while a US King is ≈193×203 cm — far wider. The UK Super King (≈180×200 cm) is closer to a US King in width but still differs in length, so never assume size names match across systems.
- Can a source factory cut custom sizes for my market?
- Yes. Full-size customization is standard at a source factory — we cut to US, UK, EU, Australian and Middle-East systems plus bespoke hotel sizes from a 100-set MOQ, with the cut list confirmed on your sample before production.
- Should I order one large duvet or paired single duvets for Europe?
- It depends on the market — continental Europe and parts of the Gulf often pair two single duvets on a double bed rather than using one large duvet. Decide this up front and confirm the matching duvet-cover and pillow sizes (e.g. EU 65×65 cm square).
